It’s been seven years since non-binary director Nicky L. Lapierre told the troubled love story between Baby and Charlie. This story is the perfect starting point for a broader conversation on creating your own identity. It’s an experimental and non-conventional documentary that combines fictional elements, real-life images, personal experiences, and unfiltered thoughts. The result is Astro: a queer and nostalgic road trip that doesn’t follow the traditional LGBTQI+ narratives, just like the lives of its two main characters.
Nicky Lisa Lapierre studied at the La Cambre art school in Brussels. Together with the performer Nour Beetch, he co-founded the artistic duo HIRO. In his work, he explores the concepts of intimacy, identity, fantasy, and limits, blurring together cinema, photography, lyrics, and sounds. He directed the experimental films Astro (2022), which debuted at Namur FIFF, Pink Screens, and Old Stuff Never Dies (2023), co-directed by Nour Beetch.
