Two Hutsul families have been at odds for many years. In an atmosphere of anger and revenge, the pure, bright love of Ivan and Marichka, who belong to the warring families, is born. Ivan is forced to go to work while Marichka drowns in a river abyss. Ivan tries to forget his beloved, but he fails. Marrying the beautiful Palagna does not help either. Only in his dying delirium does Ivan find his happiness.
